Hop Takes The Arctic! We Land Our First Contract with A Greenland Hotel

Earlier this year, we were proud to secure our first-ever contract in the Arctic. Hotel Narsaq, located in the heart of the Inuit community in Greenland, is now a member of the Hop family.

Over the past 18 months, we’ve been expanding our reach beyond our home base in the UK, with successful partnerships in Barbados, Florida, Nigeria, and across Europe. But when we received an enquiry from a port town in Southern Greenland, with its breathtaking views of the Arctic ice sheets, we were definitely intrigued.

Hotel Narsaq, located at 65 degrees north on the shore of Tunulliarfik Fjord, is a unique property offering a mix of rooms, guesthouses, and family-sized accommodation. The owners, Fridrik and Kattie Magnusson, were looking for an online booking system that could cater to both their business clientele and the international tourists who visit Greenland’s ninth-largest town.

We love a challenge, so we worked remotely with the Magnussons to integrate our booking system. It wasn’t without its hurdles – we had to navigate some Nordic regulations – but we managed to get everything up and running just in time for Narsaq’s busy summer tourist season, which is known for fishing, sheep farming, and stunning ice formations.

Our co-founder, Richard Drummond, put it best: “It’s probably one of the last places we would have imagined Hop to be, to be honest. You don’t really plan for this, but it shows just how flexible our product is. Our home is firmly in Scotland and the UK, but we love the opportunity to set up our platform in these far-flung locations.”

Fridrik Magnusson, who co-owns Hotel Narsaq with his wife, Kattie, and their children, was kind enough to praise our team for overcoming the international barriers. He mentioned, “We had a few issues related to Nordic laws, but the Hop team was quick to adapt the system. It was essential for our business customers to be able to book and amend their bookings easily online, which many systems can’t do.”

Our Chief Operating Officer, Sharon Smith, added, “We’re excited to build more relationships with properties in Greenland. Expanding into new territories is a key part of our ongoing commitment to growth and innovation. We’re delighted to be serving Hotel Narsaq and to be growing our presence in this vibrant and growing economy.”

We’re proud to be the booking platform of choice for Hotel Narsaq, and we’re looking forward to many more adventures in the future!
